Emz Blendz Soap Co. is a small natural bath product manufacturing company located in Ashland, Oregon. The concept of the business began in 1998 in Emily's (a.k.a. Emz) kitchen where she discovered the art and magic of soap making. She was inspired by her childhood love of nature's scents, her creative spirit and her intuitive sense of comfort. She set out to create the best natural soap for her family and friends. After many months and countless trials, the perfect recipe was created. Em's soap received rave reviews and was soon in high demand. Em started selling her creations at local artisans' and farmers' markets and then branched out to retail shops and bed and breakfasts. After mastering the art of soap making, Em expanded her product line to include lotions, salves, liquid soaps, lip balms and other bath products made with the highest quality ingredients and with the same loving care as her soap. Soap making is a unique marriage of science and art. Here at Emz Blendz Soap Co. we handcraft all of our soap right in our shop using a process that has been traditionally passed down through American history. The process of making soap from scratch is called the "cold process" or "kettle method." Although soap can be simply made, the chemical reaction that takes place is quite complex. It involves careful measurement and the use of a very specific formula. Traditionally, during colonial days, hardworking women made soap with rendered animal fat on the homestead. This kind of soap was functional but harsh.
Today with special calculators, accurate scales and an array of natural vegetable and plant derived oils, we are able to produce a creamy lathering bar of soap that has a delightful aroma and also leaves your skin feeling clean and soft.

We take carefully selected vegetable oils and butters, known for their skin benefiting properties, and blend them with a mixture of potash and water. Potash is essential to the soap making process but it is not present in the final bar, as it is chemically changed. We then pour the mixture into wooden molds where it sits for twenty-four hours. During this time it is saponifying (chemically changing into soap). The soap, now the consistency of soft cheese, is hand cut and put on the curing shelf for four weeks while it hardens and mellows into a delightfully mild and creamy bar of soap. We have tailored our recipes, leaving extra oils in the final bar to create super fatted soap (soap with an extra moisturizing effect). Once you have experienced Emz Blendz handmade soap, you'll never go back to any other soap again.

In order: melting oils, mixing, pouring, saponifying (converting into soap), cutting, finished product (after a four week cure time).

Most candles are made primarily with paraffin waxes that when burned release toxins into your environment. All of Emz Blendz candles are clean burning and made with 100% natural beeswax and vegetable-based waxes (soy and palm wax). They are non-toxic, burn up to 50% longer than paraffin candles, are earth friendly and made from renewable resources.

All of Emz Blendz products are handmade in small batches with herbs, essential oils and only the purest skin-nourishing vegetable oils. You can be certain that they are as fresh as possible. Most commercially available lotions and cosmetics are loaded with preservatives in order to withstand a long shelf life. We use grapefruit seed extract (a natural preservative) and a small amount of food/cosmetic grade preservative in our lotion in order to keep it safe and healthy. Because our products are made with food-grade ingredients, please enjoy Emz Blendz products within nine months after you purchase them.
